I am in Kyoto. Interesting that Tokyo uses the same letters as Kyoto, right? Just take the letters T and O and switch them to the front. Kyoto is the historic capital of the country, so there are many places to visit here to learn about Japanese history. Most people here follow 2 religions, Shinto and Buddhism. There are many Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Shrines have a gate with two pillars and a cross bar at the top, usually orange. Temples have statues, usually of Buddha. See if you can figure out from the picture slideshow which is a shrine and which is a temple.
